The Love of God
Over the last few weeks, our pastor has been preaching on our identity in Christ, with topics of He sees us, He hears us, He knows us, and this past week...He loves us. Loves us with a mind boggling kind of love. And through the entire sermon...my most favorite of all old hymns...kept running through my mind. I've probably posted it in the past somewhere along the way...but it's so worth posting again.
The love of God, is greater far than tongue or pen, can ever tell.
It goes beyond the highest star, and reaches to the lowest hell.
The guilty pair, bowed down with care, God gave His Son to win.
His erring child, he reconciled, and pardoned from his sin.
O love of God, how rich and pure, how measureless and strong.
It shall for evermore endure, the saints and angels song.
(and my favorite verse)
Could we with ink the ocean fill, and were the skies of parchment made,
were every stalk on earth a quill, and every man a scribe by trade.
To write the love of God above, would drain the ocean dry.
Nor could the scroll contain the whole, though stretched from sky to sky.
I think it's probably because of my love for the ocean, the beauty I find in the skies, and my enjoyment of writing, that the last verse is my favorite. The vastness of the ocean will never ever cease to amaze me. In the same way, the vastness of the sky does the same. So if all that vastness of the ocean was filled with ink, and the vastness of the skies were filled with paper....and if for our occupation, each one of us was given the gift of writing beautifully and perfectly....and if every stalk of a plant were a writing instrument....first of all, we would use up all of the ocean's ink...and second, even then, after we've filled all those pens with all that ink...even then, all that paper in the sky could not contain all that we would try to write, to grasp and explain the love of our God.
I pray you feel the power of His love in your life today. Happy Tuesday!
What would we do without the Love Of God!
